If you are looking for a real adventure or for an ultimate escape, you'll find it in Russia.
The choice is yours - from the Arctic Tundra in the North, to the Mongolian Steppes and the Central Asian Mountains in the South, from the Western borders to the Pacific shores.
One of our favourite regions is the Far East. It is endowed with great natural beauty and an inordinate amount of endemic and rare animal, bird and flora species, and offers expansive areas of wilderness with limited access - a rare commodity in today's world.
Some of the Far East remote corners are:
Chukotski Peninsula - the northeastern extremity of Russia populated by the Chukchi - an indigenous people still practicing Shamanism;
Kamchatka Peninsula, containing around 160 volcanoes, 29 of them still active. The peninsula has the highest density of volcanoes and associated volcanic phenomena in the world, 19 active volcanoes have been included by UNESCO in the World Heritage List. So was the 'Valley of Geysers' - a veritable miracle of nature. It is a vast bowl of steam fields, over 20 spouting geysers (some of them erupt every 10-12 minutes) and incredible mud pools, and the only geyser valley on the Eurasian Continent. In the south of the island there are also bear-watching and Steller's sea eagle observation opportunities around the Kurilskoe Lake.
Kuril Islands - 56 volcanic islands that have been the focus of a long dispute between Russia and Japan;
Sakhalin Island, also partially claimed by Japan; with its wide range of nature reserves, mountains and lakes - more than 16 thousand of them on the island covering a total area of more than a thousand square kilometres!
Some areas of the Khabarovsk Region, such as the amazing Shantar Islands - often shrouded in fog and largerly inaccessible, they remain untouched territory, and are treasured for their opportunities to observe birds and sea mammals.
Almost all of these places are still inhabited by a variety of native cultures fighting for their survival.
An individual trip to some of these remote regions needs a lot of preparation time and a thorough planning - from sourcing local catering and available accommodation, to booking boats and helicopters to reach your final destination; but we make sure your waiting will be rewarded in the end!
